How to group rows in a Confluence table
Grouping turns repeated category values into sections readers can scan. It is useful for status reports, ownership lists, regional results, and operational queues.
Choose a useful group
Select a column with a manageable number of repeated values. Status, owner, team, region, and quarter are usually clearer than unique identifiers or free-form descriptions.
Configure grouping
Edit the Simple Table, enable grouping, choose the first grouping column, add another level only when it improves comprehension, and select any group aggregations.
- Choose a categorical column
- Order group levels
- Configure expanded or collapsed behavior
- Add totals when useful
Keep the result readable
Too many group levels can hide the actual records. Prefer one or two dimensions and use sorting to establish a stable order inside each group.
