Rename Headings

Update column labels directly in Simple Tables to make imported or existing data easier to understand. Header changes appear immediately while editing and are applied once you save the table.

How it works

  1. Edit the table macro or import dialog.
  2. Select the column heading you want to rename.
  3. Type the new label (for example, change Field1 to Region).
  4. Review the updated heading directly in the table preview.
  5. Click Save to apply the change.

Why it matters

Renaming headings helps teams make tables clearer without editing the original source file. This is especially useful when imported data includes generic, inconsistent, or system-generated column names.

Use case: Clean imported vendor data

Context and challenge:
Vendor spreadsheets often arrive with generic or inconsistent headers such as Field1 or Col_A, which makes the data harder to read once imported into Confluence.

Solution – Rename headings:
After importing the file into Simple Tables, the user renames the visible column headings directly in the macro to make the table clearer for everyone working on the page.

Benefits:
Better clarity: headings become easier to understand at a glance.
No source-file edits: improve presentation without changing the original file.
Less friction: make updates directly inside Confluence.
More consistent reporting: teams can use the same naming across pages and workflows.

Impact:
Teams can make imported datasets easier to read and easier to reuse without additional cleanup steps outside Confluence.
