Layout and spacing
Choose a table density that fits how readers need to review the information.
FORMATTING
Table theme controls the spacing, font size, and density of visible rows. It is a presentation choice: your data, formulas, sorting, and filters stay unchanged.
Choose Compact for an operational view with many rows, or Comfortable when the table is meant to be read and discussed rather than scanned quickly.
One theme for each reading context
Default is the balanced starting point. Compact reduces row height, cell padding, and font size to fit more data on screen. Comfortable gives cells more space for a calmer reading view.
Table colors and Table height are separate settings in the same Formatting tab.
Set the table density
Choose a theme, then review the preview using the table’s real data.
Open Formatting
Edit the macro and switch to the Formatting tab.
Choose Table theme
Open the Table theme selector. Its description tells you how much space the selected theme uses.
Set the density
Choose Default for a balanced view, Compact to fit the most rows, or Comfortable for more breathing room and easier reading.
Review the preview
Check rows with typical long and short values. Save or publish the page when the view feels right.
TIP
Judge a theme with real table data. Very compact spacing helps daily operational work, but can make long text harder to read.
Example: review project status faster
A PMO tracks many tasks across several projects.
- Before
- In the default view, reviewers scroll through a long list even though their daily check mainly compares status and next steps.
- With Compact
- The team chooses Compact as the Table theme. More tasks fit on screen, while values, filters, and calculations remain unchanged.
