Choose Text as the data type
Choose Text for names, descriptions and IDs whose characters should stay exactly as entered.
- 1
Edit the Simple Table macro and open Columns.
- 2
Select the column and choose Text under Display → Data type.
- 3
Check the preview and save. An ID such as 00123 stays text, preserving its leading zeros.
Text configuration: where links open
When Data type is Text, the Text configuration control appears below it. Open links in offers two choices:
New tab
The default. Detected links open in a new browser tab.
Same window
Detected links open in the current browser window.
Which links are detected?
The cell can mix ordinary text and links. Simple Tables detects plain URLs, Markdown links and HTML anchors. It also recognizes mailto: and tel: addresses. Links using other protocols remain plain text.
Examples
- Plain URL
- https://example.com
- Markdown
- [Project plan](https://example.com/plan)
- HTML anchor
- <a href="https://example.com/plan">Project plan</a>
Changing where a link opens affects navigation only. The text value stays available for search, filters and sorting.
