Sorting
Column sorting brings the rows that matter to the top without changing the source data. Enable it for readers, then set a saved starting order for the table whenever you need one.
Set a meaningful order
Enable sorting once, choose one or more priorities, then save the order you want readers to start with.

Enable sorting
Open macro settings, go to Display, and turn on Sorting. Sortable columns then show a sort control in their header.

Sort one column
Click the sort control for a column. Click again to switch between ascending and descending order. Click a third time to remove sorting for that column.

Add secondary priorities
Hold Shift and click the sort control for another column. The small number in the control shows its priority. The first column decides first; later columns order only the rows that share the preceding value.

Set the starting order
Make the sorting change in macro settings and save the macro. That configuration is applied when the table loads. Changes made by readers in a published table remain in their current view.
Tip
Sorting changes the order of rows; it does not exclude any. Use filters when you need the table to show only rows that meet particular conditions.
Example: prioritize support tickets
Multiple sort priorities make a large worklist immediately actionable.
- 1. Priority descending
- Critical and high-priority tickets come before normal tickets.
- 2. Created date ascending
- For the same priority, the oldest requests come first.
- Result
- The team starts with the most urgent, longest-open work.
Keep in mind while setting it up
Check how sorting handles the saved order and the underlying data.
Saved order
Turning Sorting off in Display settings also clears the saved sorting order.
Column data type
Order follows the column’s data type. Check that dates and numbers are set up as such rather than as plain text.
Source data
Sorting applies to the data currently loaded in the table; it does not change the source or the exported source data.
