Table Excerpt and Table Excerpt Include
Table Excerpt and Table Excerpt Include are macros from another Confluence app. They let you maintain a table in one place and display it on other pages. Simple Tables can provide the interactive table in that workflow.
What each app does
The macros have different jobs. Set up the source first, then check the included view after publishing.
Table Excerpt / Include
Manages and places reusable content. The source page remains the place to edit the excerpt.
Simple Table
Displays data as an interactive table with search, sorting, filters and other table features.
No Excerpt data source
The Simple Table editor has no dedicated “Table Excerpt” source. An Include alone does not import rows into another Simple Table.
Reuse a Simple Table
If your Table Excerpt app supports macros inside excerpts, you can include a standard Simple Table as reusable content.

Create the source table
Add a standard Simple Table on the source page and choose its data source. Publish the page and check the table.

Create the excerpt
Place the Simple Table inside a named Table Excerpt, if your Confluence editor allows this macro combination.

Include it on another page
Add Table Excerpt Include, choose the excerpt name and source, then publish the destination page.

Check the result
Open the published destination page and confirm that the table and its interactive controls display correctly.
Note
Macro nesting depends on the Confluence editor and the Table Excerpt app. The page editor preview may differ from the published page.
Which Simple Tables macro should you use?
Choose based on where the table is created and edited.
Simple Table
For data from files, pasted content or integrations. This is the macro to use for the reuse workflow described here.
Simple Table with Body
For a native Confluence table edited directly inside the macro body. This is not suited to nesting a Table Excerpt Include table.
Example: one overview on several pages
A team wants its supplier overview on both a team page and a procurement page.
- Source page
- A standard Simple Table shows Supplier, Region and Status. The team maintains its data source on this page.
- Table Excerpt
- A named excerpt contains the table, if the editor supports the macro combination.
- Destination pages
- Table Excerpt Include displays the excerpt. After source changes, the team checks the published view again.
